A Utah Christmas

The week before Christmas, we drove up to Utah to spend some time with my family. We had a great time and did so many fun things. Our trip up was pretty uneventful, which is always good. We left very early in the morning, like always, so the kids (and I) could sleep the first half of the trip to Vegas. It did rain a lot of our trip, but we made it safely to my parents house.

The next day was Sunday, so we took a few pictures in front of the fireplace before church, all dressed in our Christmas best.
Then on Monday, we went to BYU and walked around the bookstore. Piper loved walking with her Grandpa. Then we went over to the Bean Museum where the kids got their first taste of snow for the season. It was the strangest thing because we had seen nothing but rain up at my parents house, but when we came down to Provo there was nothing but white. It was so surprising to see it much colder there than where it is usually colder at my parents. The kids had blast, though, throwing snow balls.Piper got hers right in the face thanks to Brody. Pretty cold huh Piper?Brody loved aiming at Grandpa Pitta and was quite good at it.After the fighting had ended, we went inside to see all the Christmas decor. I thought this was a really pretty nativity they had displayed with all the animals around.Grandma and Piper looking at the pretty shells. The kids loved the elephant."Watch out for that Tiger!"Can't ever get enough of trains.
Groundhogs?"No no Piper." She sure loves to test the waters these days with a big smile on her face too.Taking a break.Playing with Grandpa.Checking out the animal video. And here's my favorite. . . . :)

Christmas at Disneyland

We went twice to Disneyland in December while our passes still worked and John was still on vacation. It was so wonderful! It is my favorite time to be there, but not my favorite time for the crowds (that would be in Feb when NO ONE is there (: ) It wasn't too busy both times, which was great. We always LOVE when John is able to come, which is rare except in the Fall. We had a great time both times we went.

Trip #1: We left early and spent the whole day there strolling through each park and doing whatever we felt like. It was perfect weather too, which always makes for a great day. We tried to get a picture of the kids in front of the huge Christmas tree by Main Street, but only Brody was excited about pictures. Piper was done for the day and you can kind of see her grumpy face in the this shot. Oh well, maybe next time.
Trip #2: We left in the late afternoon and stayed until closing. We didn't realize it until we got there that closing was a lot earlier than usual since they were having their employee Christmas party. They kicked us out at 7:30, but we really didn't care much since we mostly came to see the Christmas lights at night. We first stopped by the tree again and luckily both kids were in the mood for a picture.Main Street all lit up!
The castle looked great too.We went straight back to Small World where all the real lights were and all the people. The lights were so much more beautiful over there compared to the Main St lights. We waited in a much longer line for Small World than usual, but they had lots of attractions that you could watch while waiting.Brody was so excited, checking it all out.It even snowed at one part and Brody went crazy for it, as did all the other kids. Here is some video I caught of him.

After we were done with Small World, we come out of the ride and the fireworks show had just started. We watched the rest of the show and it was great. It was VERY loud, though, and Piper was a bit freaked out. She clung on to me for dear life, hid her face in me, and cried. I took her in to the closest gift shop and tried to distract her with Minnie dolls. Poor girl. She was fine once it was over, but boy did it scare her.

After the fireworks, the park was closing, so we headed out. I tried to get a good picture of the tree. It was pretty amazing.
Our next plan was to go over to Cal. Adventure since it was still open, but after seeing the line and the amount of people that had the same idea, we were not about to. Instead, we strolled down Downtown Disney and had a great time. After writing this, I am so missing the holidays right now! Good thing there are more holiday entries to come! :)

Tis the Season For Parties

The whole family got to see Brody's Preschool Christmas performance before they were off for the holiday break. He was pretty excited to see us show up at the end for the story time and singing. Their Christmas party was a "Polar Express party" The kids had been working for the past week to make their Polar Express train out of boxes. They painted and decorated them themselves. It was a darling idea. Then they had a story teller come and read the story to the kids. I thought she did a great job.
Brody loved being able to wear his Santa hat and kept looking back at us as in excitement during story time.
Then it was time for songs. Two kids got to stand in each box like they were train cars during their performance. Brody was with his friend Christian. Oh and they all got to come to school that day in their jammies which they all thought was so cool. This was the first year that we didn't get Brody Christmas jammies, but he didn't care, he loved showing off his dinosaur ones.
For some reason he gets so shy when Johns sees him perform at school, probably because John isn't able to be there all the time like I am. So at one point, he decided hiding in the box was more fun. Here is video of some of their performance. I stopped the video when it became apparent that we just weren't going to see Brody's face from behind Christians.

Then it was time for the bells and he was back ready to show off. His friend Jack is on the right and they have a lot of fun together.
After the performance, it was party favors and cookie time. The kids got darling silver bell ornaments so they could remember the story and their day."Pretty good, huh kids?"
Later that night we had our ward Christmas party. Really funny story: Just before we were to go, John was getting the kids in the car and complimented Piper on how cute she looked and then complimented Brody on how handsome he looked. Then Brody, very confidently says,"Ya, I think the girls are gonna like me." John was dying of laughter and had to come right in to tell me. Oh how we love our Brody! He definitely is quiet the ladies man.

At the party, they had a presentation with the kids acting out the nativity scene. They had children designated as Mary and Joseph and then the rest of the kids were either shepherds or wise men. Brody was a shepherd, but refused to bring his staff up with him. Here he is just coming in on the left side of the curtain.
Here he is hiding behind Joseph. Once again, he found hiding behind people the best way to go so no one could see him.It was a great day for partying! Now on to more Christmas fun!
