Our Little Bundle of Joy

After what seemed like an eternity, we finally welcomed Piper Ann Brown into our lives today. It was a scheduled c-section and it was fantastic. We got plenty of sleep last night, and it only took a couple of hours from the time we got in until Piper was born. All of the nurses and doctors have been great and this new hospital is great, as well. Here is the key information:

Born at 9:17 AM
Weighed 8 lbs 6 oz
Length 21 inches

Before the baby

Right after delivery (easiest delivery ever)

We are so happy to have another child in our house and are thankful that everything went well with the birth. Thanks to everyone that supported Kelly through her 9 months of joy. And, since we are equal opportunity parents, here is a little picture of Brody:

Yes, Brody is reading a book while sitting on the potty. He is such a boy.

Piper's Baby Shower

Brody's baby shower was fun, but there is something about having a girly pink party that is much more fun. My friends Abby and Katie were so nice and threw me a beautiful shower for Piper. It was a Saturday morning brunch with a bunch of my family and friends. Piper received some of the most adorable clothes and accessories. I was in heaven! Thanks to everyone that came, helped, and shared in the excitement and especially to Abby and Katie for doing a wonderful job! Here is a picture of some of my friends, Abby, Katie, Shaylyn, and Lisa. I wasn't able to get pictures of everyone there, but here are a few of us. (Thanks to Abby for letting me steal her pictures of the event from her blog :)

Michelle, Jennifer, and Charlotte posing for the camera.Kathryn, Darci, Michelle, Lanay, and KatieJohn' grandmother Mary and his mom Aneta were great enough to travel down. Also, my sister in law Kristi came. Thanks Kristi for taking pictures!
They made some cute decorations too.

Now for some of the cute clothes! :)My friend Michelle made this baby book for Piper. It is perfect gift for me because it is scrapbooked already and I just have to add the pictures!

Kings vs Ducks Game

John usually gets a few perks working at his big firm, which sometimes makes up for having to work long hours. On Election night, we were invited to hang out with some of his coworkers and to watch the Kings hockey game from the company suite. Sometimes families aren't invited, especially when they are schmoozing clients. This time, we were and I am always up for that. Who isn't up for great seats, free food, visiting with friends, and lots of fun? Oh, and also escaping the results of the Election, which I would have been glued to all night. It made for a much more pleasant night. During the game, they announced that Obama won and the crowd went crazy with excitement. Keep in mind, we were in LA.

The Kings played the Ducks that night at Staples Center. The game wasn't too great if you were a Kings fan (like John). The game was tied 0 to 0 and then lost in overtime. John made a bet with a guy he works with (a Ducks fan) and if the Kings lost, he would have to put a Ducks bumper sticker on his car. So look out for that Ducks sticker! He is still very bitter about it.

If you have children, I definitely recommend sitting in a suite (not that we ever get this chance often). They can't go anywhere, which is great!

Family picture. I wasn't wearing a jersey like John wanted me too (not like I own one or ever will), but at least I had the colors on.
"Cheese". One of the only ways we can make him smile for the camera. Brody loved to watch the game. John has taught him all about the Kings and anytime he sees the logo, he knows exactly what it is. View from our suite. Thanks for everything Julie! We had a great time!

Halloween Night

On Halloween night, instead of staying home and passing out candy to probably a total of 2 kids the whole night (we never get anyone that visits our apartment), we went to Disneyland. We had heard that it is the best time to go because CA Adventure has this huge trick or treat party to which most people take their kids. But since school was out that day for most of So. CA, it was a bit busy. We still were able to go on a ton of rides and even met up with a few of our friends to enjoy the fireworks. It was a great night and was even better having John there helping me with Brody. I can't go alone anymore, which is sad. Just picture a 9-month pregnant women running after a 2 year old all day. That is exactly what would have happened.

John said it was the best Halloween he has ever had. If you know him well, he hates Halloween. I think it is because his birthday is 2 days before and I am sure it was always overshadowed by the holiday. That is my guess. He won't say for sure, though. (Note by John - if your mom dressed you up in a clown costume every year, you'd hate it too).

Before we went, Brody had a major meltdown. Isn't his shirt cute though? A friend of mine, Charise, put together a tie dye shirt-making party with all of us and the kids. You tie dye the shirts and then draw in the circles pumpkin faces. Mine weren't as cute as some of my friends' kids shirts. I should have started with the back first because it was a little tricky using the sharpe on a shirt. So the ones on the back are the cutest and the ones on the front are not so cute. Oh well, he only wore it once. I also procrastinated doing the pumpkin faces and didn't finish until the day of.
Brody looking so much happier once we actually got there. He loves anything Disney, especially seeing Mickey, and anytime we are in a parking structure, he thinks we are going to Disneyland (we always park in the same parking structure when we go). Kind of funny that he always associates the two.
John and Brody on the Buzz Lightyear ride. This is Brody's favorite ride. I think John loves it just as much as Brody. He is always so intense trying to get a higher score. This ride reminds me of my days going to Laser tag. Anyone else?It was about 11 before we ended up leaving. Brody was a bit tired as you can see. Once we made it out of the park, this is what I found. I always love those shots :)

Castle Park

We went to this park in Irvine Halloween day with a few friends. It was the first time we had been there and it was great. We call it Castle park because it has this huge building like castle that the kids can run and climb all in. One problem is that the play area is so big that it is hard to keep track of your kids. The kids loved it though ,so I am sure we will be back for another trip.

Brody and Gavin hanging out on the rocks.
Brody at play. Pretty cool looking castle. When I first heard about it, I was picturing something very small, not a real building.
The kids loved this tire swing as you can tell. They giggled like crazy and stayed on for at least 20 minutes. It was great because it only took a few pushes at a time (Thanks Lisa! I promise I will push them next time and you can hold my baby) I have a rather dislike for pushing Brody in the swing. He constantly wants to be on the swing which makes it hard chatting with the other moms. Does anyone else feel this way? I guess I shouldn't be like that, huh. :(
Ladies, anyone up for another trip?

Trunk or Treat

The day before Halloween, our ward had its annual Trunk or Treat party. It was held at 6, so we were very late waiting for John to get home. We almost missed just about everything. Brody was supposed to be a kangaroo for Halloween like last year because his costume still fit (it was very big on him last year). Since he wasn't into Halloween last year, I really didn't feel like getting him a whole new costume when he still didn't understand too much about it. So, I kept his costume out all month, hoping he would be excited about, but that really never happened. He would always refuse to put it on. So this night came, and I realized that I better have a back up plan or there was no way I was going to get him in his costume without a big fight. I really don't blame him. It was so hot all week and even this night it only cooled down a bit. Who would want to put on a full body fur costume? Not me!
So, can you guess what his costume was? His UNCLE! (too easy) My sister found these great jerseys at either TjMaxx or Walmart in Utah (can't remember which one, but come on, that would only happen in UT). They were on clearance and the only ones they had were # 32. Funny huh? That was before the season started and before he became a household name. So she snagged all of them for gifts and had Dennis sign them. Perfect gift for what I think cost $4 a piece! So thanks to Lindsey, he wore his jersey and it was a hit. He didn't complain one bit about it and look how cute he looks!

I realized, though, that for next year he is going to have to pick out his costume. He spotted kids in Buzz costumes and was so excited about it. So sorry Bud, next year you can be whatever you want to be and maybe you will be into it more. It was so cute seeing him walk with John around to all the cars. he seemed in awe of people giving him candy for no reason. We will also have to work on actually saying Trick or Treat for next year too.

Love The Little Things

Brody played with this popping packaging wrap for literally like 45 minutes one day. I have to admit, those things are pretty fun to play with. I was able to get so much accomplished with him so preoccupied, it was fantastic! Gotta love that!

A Very Merry Birthday!

Or so he says it was. We celebrated John's birthday the end of Oct at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I didn't have a lot of things planned for him that day since it fell on a Wed this year and assumed he was going to work. He decided to surprise us with taking the day off and planning his own day. After some church meetings I had in the morning, we headed out to Long Beach to the Aquarium. We kept talking about taking Brody for a while now and thought he would enjoy it. I am just glad that Brody was still free because there were only a few things he was super excited about and everything else he didn't have the attention span for. Maybe in a few years he will be ready for it again. We had a great time though and I am very glad we went.

Brody posing in front of one of the aquariums.
He loved watching the lobsters. Pretty creeping to me. Shark Lagoon was our most favorite spot. They had tons of things to touch, climb on, and see. One of the bigger sharks in the water. Brody was pretty fascinated with it all.I was never sure if he was in awe or scared of them. He always just looked like he didn't know what to do next.
Maybe if you click on it you can see the sting rays mouth right next to Brody's head. I think he was a little scared of that one. You can also see my figure in the reflection of the glass. That made it so hard to take pictures of things. I think he thought this shark was real and loved running all over it yelling shark. I thought this Sting Ray was pretty awesome. I was brave enough to touch it when the rest of my family refused to. I would sum up the experience as being very slimy. This lady was sitting down on the cement bench right there when this little rascal jumped right out at her. It scared her half to death (I am sure I would have too). I had the privilege of being able to see it all. It did a repeat performance for the camera that I captured below. Check it out! Great video!

Right by the sharks, they had this whole play area with sea animals you could climb on and they sqirt water. Brody had a so much fun (as did every other kid there) and it was perfect on such a hot day. The sea lions were also fun to look at. This one came right up to us.

Brody watching the big sea turtle.

Brody ran right over and yelled "Nemo!" when he saw these. The tropical fish are among my favorites to look at too.
An example of his attention span only lasting so long. He ran everywhere and climbed on everything.

I thought the jelly fish were very cool to look at. You would think I would resent them for stinging me 3 times as a child, but I don't.
After our fun afternoon at the aquarium, we came home and had John's most favorite birthday meal of pork ribs and had chocolate malted crunch ice cream cake for dessert. Hope you had a great day babe!
