Fire Station Adventure

Back in mid October, Brody's preschool had a field trip to the El Toro Fire Station. It is just a few blocks from where his preschool is located, so they all walked over. Piper and I met them at the station, so we could tag along. Brody was so excited for this day and to see a truck and firemen up close. They had been learning all about fire safety all week. I couldn't miss seeing is reaction to it all.

After our group picture, they took us inside and fireman Ian talked to the kids. He was really great with them, telling them what to do if there is a fire and what the fireman have to do to get ready for a call.

Then he got all suited up, showing them how to put on the gear and why they need it. The kids were fascinated and very quiet.
Showing them his oxygen tank.So cool! Then they got to take a picture with him.Next, almost every kid was able to sit in the truck, up until the bell rang and it was time for the fireman to leave for a call. They had warned us about that before, but we didn't think it would actually happen. It was sad our time was cut short, but still exciting at the same time to watch them get ready and leave for real.We went out to the front lawn to watch the truck leave and the fireman wave goodbye. They had given all the kids fireman hats and sticker badges to wear. Even Piper got one and she was so excited. One more group shot before it was time to walk back.
The only downside we had to this whole fire safety week was that, shortly after, our smoke detector went off downstairs and scared Brody pretty bad. As much as we explained to him the smoke detectors are to protect us, he is really afraid of them going off. He knows one is in his room and doesn't want to be in there alone now for fear it will go off and there will really be a fire. So now, if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he wont go back to bed on his own and comes into ours. It has gotten much better now, but it was pretty awful there for a while. Can't wait for this fearful stage to go away!
