A Utah Wedding and Then Some

Two sisters, four kids 4 and under, and one long car ride from CA to Utah= only 1 stop! Wait, what? It was true, we left the Thursday after Easter early in the morning (well, not too early, 5:45am), and headed to Utah.

Lindsey and her kids came the night before so we could have the car packed and so we could leave early. The kids were great the whole trip, probably because they hadn't seen each other for a while, and were entertained just having fun together. Piper slept the most out of any of them and Easton had the hardest time in his seat, but he is almost 2. We stopped just the once in Mesquite for everything: gas, lunch, change clothes, bathroom, and a chance to get out of the car. After that, we were great and at one point all the kids were asleep. It was wonderful. I guess it helped that they got to munch on chocolate chip cookies.

Check out this face. We turned around not long after giving it to him and he looked like this. How does that happen? One cookie later and they all passed out.Utah's weather was bizarre, to say the least, for April/May. It was cold when we got there (40's) and the morning after we woke up at my parents house it looked like this.
And my car looked like this:
The first thing Piper said when I showed her was, "Let's go sledding!" Brody asked my parents the same thing. It didn't stay long, though, but the cold weather did. The next day was my cousin Brandon's wedding up in Salt Lake. We had hopes that the storm would pass and even when we left the sun was coming out. But it didn't last long and was windy and cold. It made it pretty miserable for everyone waiting outside. Why didn't I bring a jacket? The sealing was amazing, though, and Brandon and Emily looked so beautiful. Emily has 3 of the nicest, adorable children and now they are all one happy family.
After a few pictures, my parents and Lindsey and I took the first opportunity we could to take off and get the luncheon set up. It was at an old stone church across the street from the Capitol building. It was great to have so much of our family there and I loved chatting and reuniting with them.
Lindsey and I enjoying some time without the kids.
After the luncheon, we went back to relieve the babysitter and pick up the kids for the reception. This was the clever, amazing sign that my talented cousin Ashley did. It was in front of the building to tell the guests where to go.
It was held at This is the Place Heritage Park in the Smoot Hall building. Very nice place to have a wedding. Here was the banquet room.Their whole wedding theme was all about the movies. Brandon is in the movie industry, so they played off of that. The groom's cake was the best. They did three film reels and had two Oscar statues on top, one male and one female, with real film draped throughout. It was clever and I wish I got a picture of it. Instead, here is the food table with my cousins Ashley and Paula cutting the Bride's cake and attending to the guests. The kids loved all the sweets and were soon showing off their sugar rushes. Brody, of course, always has a hard time keeping a straight face.
A picture of all the kidlets against Easton's will.Piper loves Brooklyn and can't stop talking about her still.Brooklyn is always nice to let her tag along. Someday, these two will be great friends. They are only a year and a half apart. This one is my favorite. Piper is just too excited to be hanging out with the big kids.Big, little, smallAll of us cousins had all of our kids there and it was so fun to meet some for the first time. Most of them had never meet Brody and Piper, or at least hadn't seen them since they were really little (time has flown by so quick!). So, it was so fun to get to know them better. Piper was meeting her little cousin Brighton here for the first time and Brighton was definitely not shy. She went right in for the hug and kiss. It was so cute! The kids needed a break, so I took them outside for a bit and finally the sun came out and it was nice outside. They had this bird statue outside, so the kids were playing on it. I love Piper's classic pout for not being able to climb on where she wanted to. This is the look we see a lot these days. Sigh. Finally, she is happy and ready for a cute picture. Then they went down, played in the field, saw some geese, and found some sticks and mud. Brody also managed to rip his shirt with a stick and Piper got her church shoes all muddy. I can't take them anywhere! :) It was still a great day and had so much fun seeing everyone! Love those Smith weddings!
